What's New with the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle?

Last updated 5 years ago

The Volkswagen Beetle has a storied history and one of the most iconic appearances in the automotive world. While last generation’s New Beetle enjoys quite the fan following, the 2012 iteration takes its styling cues from a few generations back. With a more masculine overall design that echoes the late 60s Beetle as well as the original 1939 model itself, the 2012 version of the venerable Bug brings everything that made the original great into the future.

The 2012 Beetle will be offered with an optional 200-horsepower, 2.0L turbocharged engine with a dual-clutch gearbox. There are plans for a late release of a pairing of this engine and a manual transmission, which will make the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle ideal for VW fans and driving enthusiasts alike. A diesel engine is also in the making for U.S. drivers.

The chassis is based upon the VW Golf, which gives it improved handling in the twisties but appropriate road manners for everyday driving. The blend of performance and economy means that the new Beetle returns 31 mpg on the highway. It also sports a DSG transmission, which is an incredible piece of technology that provides quick and smooth shifting. It also includes paddle shifters, so you have convenience and no loss of RPMs between gear changes.

With a "heritage-inspired" glovebox in the dash, there is extra storage space for your goodies, as well as another cue taken from the Beetles of old. Customizable ambient lighting jazzes up the interior with a subtle glow, while Bluetooth and iPod connectivity allow you to enjoy hands-free communication and music to bring you into the 21st century.

The all-new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is a throwback and an innovation. Check out the new Beetle for yourself at Falcone Automotive. Visit our Volkswagen dealership to take your test drive, or call us at (317) 263-0002 today.
