When looking to purchase a used vehicle, you should immediately think of your local dealership. Buying from a private seller or independent dealer is an option, but the quality of their vehicles has no guarantee. There are many reasons that make buying from a true dealership the best option.
After an automotive manufacturer releases a new vehicle, that vehicle faces a wide range of exposure to different environments, driving conditions, and vehicle wear. All these factors give new vehicles a true test of every single system and expose any areas that may have an issue. If a common issue occurs repeatedly in a certain vehicle, then the manufacturer will come up with a solution to the problem and inform all of the dealerships that sell their vehicles. When a dealer takes a trade-in vehicle to sell, they will inspect it and take care of any manufacturer-recommended repairs or updates. Third-party dealers and private sellers don’t have this information, and therefore cannot guarantee that a vehicle is up to date with recalls and repairs.
Most used vehicles that dealerships sell come from trade-in vehicles. When the dealership takes a trade-in vehicle they first perform a thorough inspection of it and check its history to ensure it has not been in an accident or had any serious problems. If the vehicle passes the inspection, it will proceed to have a deep cleaning and any necessary repairs performed. If the vehicle does not pass inspection it will go up for auction, which is where many third-party or private sellers buy their vehicles.
Upon passing the inspection, areas of the vehicle that need maintenance or repair are repaired to manufacturer standards. A dealership is able to service a car for certification using all OEM parts and factory-trained technicians. Private sellers are not required to do any repairs or inspections, and you have no guarantee on the vehicle’s quality.
